- ➤ On May 8th, the Empty Bowl event at L’Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles brought together warm soup, live Cajun music by Ryan Foret and the Foret Tradition, and one-of-a-kind handmade bowls from local artists—proceeds raised helped support the Salvation Army of Southwest Louisiana. Gator 99.5
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday night that Johnathan Simien (18) of Lake Arthur was booked for second-degree murder and illegal carrying/discharge of weapons after a homicide investigation, with bond yet to be set. 7 KPLC
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Louisiana lawmakers are considering a bill that would require cameras in special-education classrooms and ban secluding students after outbursts. The House Education Committee approved the proposal and advocates say the law will strengthen protections for students — a shift coming after audits found that schools used restraints without oversight. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ McNeese State will play a 12-game football schedule this fall—six home games and six away games—starting on Aug. 30 at Louisiana College. The extra game, rare every four or five seasons, opens new revenue opportunities and adds more flexibility for the team. The American Press
- ➤ Local high school baseball playoff games are scheduled this weekend in SWLA with quarterfinal matchups on May 8 and today and semifinal contests in a best-of-three format played on campus — state championship games will be held at McMurry Park in Sulphur if teams advance — as local teams compete for a title.
