  • Residents have received scam texts from a sender claiming to be the OMV that warn of license suspension for unpaid tolls, and officials have warned people to ignore the messages—report any suspicious texts to the FTC.  7 KPLC
  • The Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating an overnight fatal shooting in Lake Arthur—Sheriff Kyle Miers confirmed the scene is secure—and the suspect is in custody.  The American Press

  • Marshall Simien Jr. won the mayoral runoff on May 3 and is forming his transition team to improve law enforcement, infrastructure, housing, and healthcare—he will also meet with former mayor Nic Hunter for a smooth transfer of power.  7 KPLC
  • Yesterday, the Louisiana Center for Health Innovation and the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs launched a statewide survey to learn about the challenges faced by Louisiana veterans and their families. The survey—covering mental health, housing, employment, health care and family support—will help guide future improvements in veteran services.  The American Press
  • On May 7, 2025, the Allen Parish Police Jury unanimously approved ordinance guidelines for injection well permitting to regulate carbon capture projects—pending a ruling from the attorney general to confirm its legality.   • At LEMC Tuesday at the Golden Nugget Lake Charles Hotel and Casino, emergency management officials said FEMA is restructuring its role by cutting programs like BRIC and Flood Mitigation Assistance while still allotting grant awards for local needs. GOHSEP is transitioning to operate under the Louisiana National Guard under interim director Brig. Gen. Mahfouz — with oversight by Maj. Gen.
