- ➤ Second Harvest Food Bank cut the ribbon on a new 24,000 square foot distribution center in Lake Charles early Friday morning, which now serves 23 parishes and 30 local pantries. John Toups said the facility stores, receives, and distributes thousands of pounds of food weekly (aiming to distribute 50 million pounds this year) (to help people facing food insecurity). 7 KPLC
- ➤ One of the largest food banks in Louisiana cut the ribbon on its new distribution center in Southwest Louisiana on May 6th — the first facility of its kind in the region that will provide food support to local residents. 7 KPLC

- ➤ The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office warns that a scammer posing as a bonding company representative tricked a family member of an incarcerated person into sending $500 via a payment app— the incarcerated individual does not have a bond and is awaiting a court hearing. 7 KPLC
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ SOWELA Technical Community College is now registering students for an 18‑week HVAC training program that starts with day classes on June 2 and evening classes on June 3—students will learn residential and commercial HVAC systems with OSHA training to prepare for EPA certification and jobs that pay around $64,000 a year. 7 KPLC

- ➤ Environmental groups such as the Louisiana Bucket Brigade object to Venture Global’s LNG expansion in Cameron Parish—citing safety issues, permit violations, and threats to local fishing, property values and public health.
