  • SWLA Cyber Club is hosting the free 5th Annual SWLA Cyber Security Summit on July 24 at the Event Center at L’Auberge Casino Resort in Lake Charles.   • The Arts and Humanities Council of SWLA will host a free, family-friendly Spring Art Walk at McNeese on May 17 from 12:00 to 4:00 PM for local art and live music plus interactive art zones on campus. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Weather Service of Lake Charles said a slow-moving system will bring heavy rain and moderate flooding risk to south, central and northern Louisiana today through Thursday evening — the storms are expected to drop between 3 and 12 inches of rain with flash flooding in urban and riverbank areas. The system may also trigger severe thunderstorms with strong winds, hail and a slight risk of tornadoes — residents should monitor local updates.  The American Press

  • Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s deputies received new green uniforms and load-bearing vests and their vehicles were updated as part of a rebranding effort that began May 5—a move that replaces the nearly 25-year old blue uniforms used during Sheriff Beth Lundy’s tenure.  7 KPLC
  • A massive coastal restoration project aimed at rebuilding wetlands after the 2010 Gulf oil spill was halted when the U.S. Army Corps suspended its permit due to allegations that a key study was deliberately withheld—Gov. Landry claims the previous administration concealed data showing lower land creation and the state must act by Monday to challenge the decision.  The American Press
