CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On May 2, a Calcasieu Correctional Center booking report detailed arrests of individuals from Lake Charles, Vinton, Westlake and Sulphur for charges including possession of a Schedule II drug, illegal carrying of weapons, resisting an officer, battery, simple assault, stalking and contempt of court—officials provided a list of offenses among the arrestees. 7 KPLC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Tommy Bilbo defeated Priscilla Sam with 57% of the vote on May 3 to win Lake Charles City Council District C and will replace councilman Rodney Geyen (who did not run for reelection). Voters also approved tax renewals for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and Westlake services (including fire and police funding) that will support local programs for years. 7 KPLC
- ➤ The former Lake Charles Air Force Station located southeast of town near the McNeese State University Farm was one of seven Gulf Coast radar sites in 1976 that tracked unauthorized aircraft and kept defense costs low under the Air Defense Command. The station closed on Sept 30th, 1995 and only the headquarters building remains as a reminder of its historical role. The American Press
