- ➤ Second Harvest Food Bank opened a 24,000 square-foot distribution center on La. 397 yesterday—designed with extra refrigeration and freezer space to store up to 450 pallets and boost its capacity to deliver 8 million pounds of food annually. The new center will help meet 80 percent of Calcasieu Parish’s food assistance needs in the fight against hunger. The American Press
- ➤ Today at Mary’s Lounge on Broad Street, the third annual Crawfish Boil-Off hosted by McVey’s Seafood will run from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Teams of 3 to 5 will pay a fee of $250 to $350 that includes three sacks of crawfish—live music, judging from 2:00 to 4:15, a crawfish eating contest at 4:30, and winners announced at 5:00 add to the fun. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On May 1, city officials released a report listing capital investments made in each district since 2017, with North Lake Charles receiving over $40 million from projects since 2018 after viewer inquiries increased interest. The report shows District A received $23 million and also includes an additional $98 million in citywide projects — city spokesperson Katie Harrington said the projects benefit the entire community. 7 KPLC
