  • The Kiwanis Club will host its annual Community Baby Shower at CHRISTUS Ochsner Lake Area Hospital on Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—community members can donate baby lotion, baby wipes, diapers, and other items for Pack-N-Play packages to support local families in need.  7 KPLC
  • KPLC launches its new online-only show It’s All Good with Morgan Babineaux, which streams live at 11 a.m. every Monday on its website & smart TV apps to share positive news from our community. Episodes missed live can later be viewed on the 7 News app.  7 KPLC

  • Louisiana residents are warned by revived Apple messaging that Chrome may collect more data than Safari; experts advise checking browser settings for better privacy. Google will add new privacy features like improved Incognito Mode and IP Protection later in 2025—residents are urged to consider using Safari or Firefox.  Gator 99.5

CULTURE NEWS

  • Kinder will host the Coushatta Crossroads Festival on July 19 at the Coushatta Pavilion behind the Coushatta Casino Resort, featuring two stages and a dance floor where top Cajun & Zydeco artists including Wayne Toups and Rusty Metoyer will perform. Tickets go on sale Friday, May 30 at 10 a.m. on Ticketmaster.  Gator 99.5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials in Lake Charles hired city planner Jeff Speck to review downtown walkability—he noted that roads with wide lanes encourage speeding cars and pose risks for pedestrians and bicyclists. Officials plan to use his advice to improve both downtown and nearby residential areas in the coming years.  7 KPLC
  • The DOTD announced that crews will remove a bridge on U.S. 165, so nightly closures are scheduled to allow work. U.S. 165 southbound will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on May 12 and 13 and northbound from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on May 18 and 19—drivers should use detour routes as recommended by DOTD.  7 KPLC
