- ➤ Operation Restoration hosted a popup event in Lake Charles today to offer IDs, transportation, hygiene, food and bill assistance to recently released women. Senior Advisor Montrell Carmouche said the initiative addresses the distinct challenges these women face in reentering society. 7 KPLC
- ➤ A local reentry program (LCRP) is supporting formerly incarcerated women with job training, counseling, and other services in Lake Charles. The initiative aims to help them adjust to society and reduce risks of reoffending. 7 KPLC
- ➤ McCoy Fontenot, a Bell City 5th grader with Type 1 diabetes, loves playing basketball and is receiving community support to fund his diabetic alert dog (donations have surpassed $13,000), helping him manage his condition and follow his dreams. 7 KPLC
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, April 23, a former volunteer firefighter in Flatwoods rescued neighbors from a burning home by knocking on doors instead of fueling the blaze, with fire officials noting the home was lost and urging residents to install smoke detectors (available free from the state fire marshal). 7 KPLC

- ➤ Downtown at Sundown returns this Friday — featuring 'Blast to the Past' with Three Sheets and Louisiana Express on Ryan Street in front of Historic City Hall and the Courthouse from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The series runs every Friday through May 22. Gator 99.5

- ➤ Energy companies are delaying major projects until a 2025 law improves predictability in oilfield litigation, Rep. Brett Geymann said after a Lake Charles working group of roughly 30-person legislators and industry reps discussed the stalled investments. The American Press

- ➤ St. Louis Catholic's seniors Carter Brinkman and Conner Istre won a Division III doubles tennis state championship at Forsythe Park in Monroe on Tuesday and clinched a perfect 20-0 season with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Parkview Baptist. The American Press
- ➤ On Tuesday, April 28, the McNeese Cowboys signed three offensive linemen, Blake Perry, Devonne Barry and Tyler Carlson, to bolster the team ahead of the season opener on Aug. 29 at Navarre Stadium; all players are at least (6-4 tall and over 315 lbs) and bring NAIA experience.
