  • Today at noon, This is Home Fest returns to the lakefront with 10 bands, local food trucks, and a Kids Zone open until 6 p.m. The festival—started in 2021 after recent natural disasters—adds a nursing area for mothers and offers scholarships for five students while working with local law enforcement to keep the event safe.  7 KPLC

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Louisiana is emerging in the offshore wind energy market with two secured projects in Cameron, Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes estimated to generate $40 million in lifetime revenue—efforts that are key to the state’s growing energy sector. The projects will boost coastal economies as they move forward—though federal actions may bring challenges to future development.  The American Press

  • The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will host two free fishing events at the CPSO Farm Pond—located behind the Calcasieu Correctional Center at 5400 E. Broad Street—for local youth and senior residents. The Youth/DARE Fishing Derby is held today from 8:00 a.m. to noon for children 5 to 15, and the Senior Citizens’ Fishing Rodeo will run on May 1 from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  7 KPLC

  • Allen Cormier, a former first responder, founded With You to offer mental health counseling and holistic care to first responders—helping them break the habit of suffering in silence. After facing severe stress during Hurricane Laura and struggling to find specialized local help, he built a network of counselors and peer support programs to improve the well-being of his colleagues.  The American Press
  • Anne Griepsma received a life-saving kidney transplant from her sister (Dr. Alice Babst) after struggling with multiple major health issues. The sisters will use Donate Life Month (April) to raise awareness about living organ donation.  The American Press
