  • Three retirees volunteer for Catholic Charities by delivering over 40,000 pounds of food each month to families across 10 local communities. They work four days a week in parishes such as Calcasieu, Beauregard, Allen, Cameron, and Jeff Davis (using a trusted system they developed together).  7 KPLC
  • Ted Perrodin was featured on Apr. 23 as the last SWLA resident drafted during the Vietnam era, highlighting his service and the local military legacy. His story reminds the community of a rare chapter in our area's history.  7 KPLC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has launched a new online portal for tariff refunds so local importers can recover duties paid on past trade transactions. Businesses such as auto shops and contractors may see reduced costs if refunds are issued within 60-90 days.  7 KPLC

  • UB40, Maxi Priest and the Wailers will perform at the beach at L'Auberge Casino Resort on Sunday, Apr. 26 at 1:00 p.m. The event promises reggae hits and a laid-back atmosphere for the community.  Gator 99.5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a seatbelt checkpoint on Saturday, April 25 (as part of the Buckle Up in Your Truck campaign) at an undisclosed location in the parish. The campaign runs until April 28 to remind drivers to buckle up while driving trucks and other vehicles.  Gator 99.5
  • FEMA announced that the Diocese and Greater St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church in Lake Charles will receive a total of over $3.5M for Hurricane Laura recovery, with funds allocated for management costs and repairs — while the Louisiana Department of Health is set to receive $2.45M to cover Hurricane Ida management expenses.  7 KPLC

HEALTH NEWS

  • A drive-thru rabies vaccination clinic will be held tomorrow at West Cal Arena & Events Center from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Calcasieu Parish Police Jury said pet owners can get shots for dogs and cats at $8 if spayed or neutered and $10 if not, with microchipping offered.  Gator 99.5

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mitchell's walk-off hit propelled Lake Charles College Prep to today's regional playoffs after erasing a six-run deficit on Saturday. They will face No. 2 St. Charles at 4:30 p.m.—a key matchup for the team.  7 KPLC
  • High school baseball playoffs open today as top teams like state-leading Barbe (after a 13-day break) and Westlake start best-of-three series, with Barbe set to face Mandeville at 6 p.m. and other regional games beginning in home venues and in Sulphur.  The American Press
  • Corey Chest, a 6 ft 8 in forward from New Orleans (who played at LSU and Ole Miss), officially committed to join the McNeese State Cowboys yesterday.   • The New Orleans Saints are set to build on their strong finish as the NFL Draft, which began yesterday in Pittsburgh and continues through Saturday, offers them the No. 8 overall pick plus additional selections in rounds 2 to 7; standout quarterback Tyler Shough helped spark their surge.  Gator 99.5
  • McNeese State Cowboys added sophomore forward Alier Maluk from Florida State via the transfer portal on Wednesday.
