  • ‘The Big Event’ served dozens of residents across the Lake Area yesterday, offering essential services and opportunities to connect with local support. Organizers said the gathering strengthened community bonds — a promising effort for future events.  7 KPLC
  • The Salvation Army of Lake Charles will hold its 17th annual Empty Bowl fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at L’Auberge Casino Resort’s ballroom to support community meals, shelter, and vital services, adding the ‘Ladles and Laissez-Faire’ soup competition (which honors local restaurants) to the event.  The American Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Louisiana lawmakers are debating a bill that would require TOPS recipients to repay funds if they fail to meet enrollment and GPA requirements, with exceptions for hardships (TOPS Honors recipients are exempt); the measure passed its House Committee vote last Tuesday and will come up for debate soon.  The Advocate

  • Six-year-old Gracie Gotte, who has Silver-Russell Syndrome, will fly to New York on June 29 for a leg lengthening surgery while her family launches the Supporting Gracie campaign to raise awareness of her rare condition.  7 KPLC
