EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, Bess the Book Bus returns to Lake Charles through a CITGO partnership to give free books to pre-K and first-grade students at J.D. Clifton and T.H. Watkins Elementary schools — tomorrow, the mobile literacy initiative will visit Brenda Hunter Head Start and E.K. Key Elementary so children can select a book to call their own.  7 KPLC
  • Food service supervisors have released school lunch and breakfast menus for April 14-17 for area schools. Menus list daily meal options that vary by district including Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron and Jeff Davis (menus are subject to change).  The American Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Louisiana lawmakers return to the Capitol — they plan to reform the transportation department, lower car insurance rates and revisit a failed amendment amid federal spending cuts. They will also debate proposals on health initiatives, tax reform and teachers' salary increases as they work on a new state budget.  The Advocate

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, McNeese rallied from a six-run deficit after four innings to score 13 runs and win 14-7 over Incarnate Word in San Antonio—extending its winning streak to 12 games, the longest in program history. Powered by two 3-run homers from Mack Brousseau and key contributions from other hitters, the Cowboys improved their record to 27-5 overall and 14-4 in conference play.  The American Press
