CULTURE NEWS

  • Live at the Lakefront returns this Saturday, April 11 at a new location between Port Wonder and Crying Eagle. Texas-based alternative rock band Uncle Lucius will headline the free festival running from noon to 10 p.m.—it also features a kids zone, art vendors, food trucks, and free parking.  7 KPLC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • United Way of Southwest Louisiana will present its revised downtown expansion plan at City Hall Monday at 5 p.m. The updated design for its building on Ryan Street uses facade adjustments to meet SmartCode rules and ensure fair treatment for similar projects.  The American Press
  • Sheriff Sam Craft was inducted into the Louisiana Justice Hall of Fame Tuesday, Apr. 7 to honor his long service in law enforcement. The ceremony recognized his dedication to community safety and his contributions to local government.  7 KPLC
  • Governor Jeff Landry signed an executive order on April 7 to create a new office (Office of Rural Health Transformation and Sustainability) within the Department of Health to boost rural healthcare. The office will expand the healthcare workforce and modernize care using federal funding.  7 KPLC

  • Antonio McArthur Sr. of Lake Charles had a below-knee amputation last year to protect his health and now shares his recovery journey by joining support programs at CHRISTUS Ochsner St. Patrick. His story shows how family and community care help overcome tough health challenges.  7 KPLC

  • A new food truck park called The Chuck Stop may soon come to 510 Broad Street, featuring local food trucks serving diverse dishes (live music is also planned). No official opening date has been set yet.  Gator 99.5

  • McNeese Cowgirl Kickers are headed to nationals for the second consecutive year, the school announced Tuesday (Apr. 7); further details on the event will come soon.  7 KPLC
  • Larry Johnson, after a historic rookie season at McNeese (where he broke a record), entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, April 7, according to social media reports. He is the fourth Cowboy to do so and may return next fall if McNeese keeps him.  The American Press
  • McNeese announced Ashton Feldhaus as the new Cowgirl coach Tuesday, replacing Ayla Guzzardo. Feldhaus, who coached at Morehead State, will build on recent success — keeping key recruits and connecting with the community in Southwest Louisiana.  The American Press
