- ➤ A Bell City woman—Yvette Gragg Logan—had her 12-year sentence upheld after the court rejected her appeal for fatally shooting her husband in 2023 when he yelled at her for not putting his hunting gear away. The American Press
- ➤ Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested several individuals on Monday, April 7th for crimes including domestic abuse battery–strangulation, resisting an officer, public intimidation, theft and drug possession with bonds ranging from $6,000 to $490,000. The American Press

- ➤ Local summer camps now offer diverse programs in Calcasieu and Beauregard with themed adventure experiences, art classes for K-8 students and inclusive sessions for special needs along with fire safety training for young children. Registration opens today for sessions running from June 2 to July 25 with Epic Adventure costing $350 (excluding observed holidays) and Camp Smiling FACES scheduled from June 2 to 5 (with a $65 fee). 7 KPLC

- ➤ Lake Charles attorney Cade R. Cole was sworn in as the 119th associate justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court on Monday, April 7th at the Calcasieu Parish Courthouse in a packed investiture ceremony. He replaces former Justice James T. Genovese—who left the court to become president of Northwestern State University at Natchitoches—and becomes the second Calcasieu Parish attorney to serve on the court. The American Press
- ➤ On March 18, Netchoice filed a federal petition challenging a state law that will require Louisiana teens to verify their age and get parental consent to use popular social media sites—38 top platforms are included in the suit arguing it violates the First Amendment. The law is set for enforcement on July 1 but has been postponed as legal proceedings continue. The Advocate
