  • Agnes DeRouen signed off from KPLC 7News on March 28 after nearly 20 years with the station and a 45-year career covering major events in Lake Charles. A native of Avery Island, she was honored with a LAB Hall of Fame induction — a testament to her impactful reporting — and leaves a lasting legacy in local broadcast journalism.  7 KPLC
  • LSU AGCenter expert Robert Turley said the Southwest Louisiana Garden Conference and Expo gives visitors a weekend of plants and gardening fun at the Burton Complex on Gulf Highway, where a wide range of vegetables, flowers and tropical displays will be on show. Adults pay $3 while children 12 and under enter free, and expo doors remain open until 5 p.m. today before reopening tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  7 KPLC

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities arrested 20-year-old Jordan M. James last night, March 27, after a fatal shooting in Iowa that left 22-year-old Tyrinn A. Leday dead—investigators say James fired at the pair following a dispute as he left his residence on South Lambert Avenue.  7 KPLC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new study found that Louisiana high schoolers are less likely to earn internship credits and complete apprenticeships than their peers in other southern states, with about 5 percent finishing internships and only 3 in 1,000 completing apprenticeships in 2023. State education officials will push for more work-based learning next school year—plans include merging tax credits to encourage more businesses to offer these opportunities.  The Advocate

  • The Louisiana DOTD announced road closures on I-10 and Oak Grove Drive that will affect motorists over the next several days—closures include I-10 westbound right lane and Exit 27 from 8 p.m. Monday until 5 a.m. Tuesday and an I-10 closure from the Texas State Line to Exit 4 from 8 p.m. today until noon Sunday. Drivers are urged to follow detour instructions using US 90, La. 108, and PPG Drive to avoid delays.  The American Press

  • Reckitt is recalling 50-fluid-ounce bottles of Woolite Delicates detergent from local stores after tests found the product may contain harmful Pseudomonas bacteria—customers are urged to stop using it and contact the company for a refund.  Gator 99.5
