COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana will host its sixth annual Bags and Brews cornhole tournament fundraiser tomorrow at Crying Eagle Brewery-University (Beer Garden). Teams check in at 10 a.m. and begin play at 11 a.m., with online preregistration required for players while spectators can attend at no cost.  The American Press
  • United Way of Southwest Louisiana is hosting Dolly Run on April 18 in downtown Lake Charles at 815 Ryan Street, a 3.1-mile run where participants in Dolly outfits can win best dressed awards, enjoy a DJ and karaoke, and help local kids with a book donation station.  Gator 99.5

  • Mud Nationals at Sabine ATV Park runs from March 25th through 29th and features country music star Craig Morgan for live performance, off-road contests, and outdoor fun in the community.  Gator 99.5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Incoming freshmen at McNeese must register for the required two-day Cowboy Camp, which offers essential orientation sessions including on-campus housing and free meals (a $250 fee is applied after attendance) for sessions starting May 27-28, June 24-25, July 8-9, July 22-23, and August 21.  7 KPLC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a Houston summit, Gov. Landry urged faster state permits to ease LNG project delays as Venture Global CEO Mike Sabel said his company plans to boost export capacity from local facilities from 37 to 85 million tons by 2029, though a labor shortage may slow growth.  The American Press
  • The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury announced the expansion of the Calcashout mass notification system to offer more updates on emergencies, road closures, weather, and local events. Residents can sign up by texting Calcashout to 78015 or visiting the website & Facebook page for more information.  7 KPLC
  • Louisiana lawmakers advanced House Bill 636 on Wednesday to hold student organizations fully accountable for hazing following the fatal incident involving Caleb Wilson, with schools now required to report incidents and enforce lasting bans.  The American Press

  • McNeese confirmed Heath Schroyer accepted an LSU role as Senior Deputy AD/Executive Director of External Relations and will stay until April 10 to transition leadership. LSU insiders say this move may allow the school to negotiate Will Wade's return as head coach (Wade has not signed yet).  7 KPLC
  • The Louisiana Kids Folkstyle State Wrestling Tournament launches today at the Lake Charles Event Center, featuring youth wrestlers competing for state titles across various age groups; tickets cost $15 + $5 for kids 12 and under. The event will continue tomorrow.  7 KPLC
