- ➤ Venture Global received approval from the U.S. Department of Energy to export LNG from its Calcasieu Pass 2 project to any country, including Europe. The decision lifts previous limits to 20 countries with free trade agreements and moves the project closer to launch pending additional federal permits. The Advocate
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Louisiana executed Jessie Hoffman Jr. (46) using nitrogen gas Tuesday evening at 6:50 p.m. at the Louisiana State Penitentiary after the gas flowed for 19 minutes in a process officials called flawless; witnesses noted slight involuntary shaking during the execution. The American Press

- ➤ SOWELA Technical Community College and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office hosted the first-ever Criminal Justice Day, where more than 300 high school and college students learned about law enforcement jobs from local agencies and saw demonstrations like the SWAT Team’s Robo dog. Officials said they will hold the event again next year—expanding opportunities for students to explore criminal justice careers. 7 KPLC

- ➤ On March 18, the Louisiana Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit that said the wording for Amendment 2 was confusing—voters can read the full measure online—to affirm that the ballot language meets legal standards. Two justices dissented while Gov. Landry called the suit frivolous. 7 KPLC
- ➤ Next month Westlake City Council will vote on an ordinance that defines junk items—old tires, barbeque pits, scrap metal, automobile parts, and broken motorcycles and boats—to allow the city to remove unsightly debris from neighborhoods. Mayor Hal McMillin said the rule change is a response to local complaints and is part of a broader effort to boost property values and community pride. The American Press

- ➤ Project Build A Future will soon start building 18 to 19 hurricane-resistant homes in Kingman Crossing in north Lake Charles in May—an $8.2 million project designed to keep housing affordable for buyers earning at least $50,000; the neighborhood will offer four designs and give preference to first-time homebuyers or those who have not owned a home in four years as construction continues in phases over two years or more. 7 KPLC
