The Louisiana Chamber of Commerce Foundation is building a two-story business center in North Lake Charles that will have shops, low-cost offices for small companies, and a community area with a restaurant.
The center is on North Martin Luther King Highway and will start construction this fall with free classes planned—completion is expected by the second quarter of 2026.

Amanda Stutes was named Teacher of the Week on Friday, March 14 and returns to teach art at Our Lady’s Catholic School in Sulphur.
She works with pre-K to fifth grade students (200 in all) in a creative classroom that encourages freedom to explore and learn from mistakes (a method she values deeply).

Khalid Taha, who has lived in Lake Charles for 42 years —a senior chemist at Westlake Corporation— is running for mayor to fix issues like understaffed police, potholes, and low job growth.
He says his deep roots in the community drive him to bring fresh ideas as early voting begins March 15th with Election Day on March 29th.

Louisiana health experts warn against measles parties after a U.S. outbreak killed one child and infected 222 people, with 33 hospitalized—parents are urged to vaccinate as Our Lady of Lourdes offers discounted MMR shots today from 9 a.m. to noon at the Children’s Specialty Center, with each child’s shot costing $10.

The McNeese Cowboys repeated as Southland Conference champs by beating Lamar 63—54 on March 14th and secured a spot in the NCAA tournament.
The team will host a free viewing party on Sunday at the Legacy Center—doors open at 4 p.m. as fans await the tournament bracket announcement.
On March 14, Hamilton Christian Warriors won their first-ever boys' basketball state championship by defeating Southern Lab 61-58 in the Division IV Select LHSAA Championship at Burton Complex.
The win marks a historic milestone for the team.
After a bumpy season marked by early struggles, the Cowboys won the Southland Conference title game over Lamar on Friday, March 14th, 2025—securing their second straight championship and earning a back-to-back NCAA Tournament bid.
They will begin their NCAA Tournament run on Sunday and aim to win a tournament game for the first time.
On Friday night the Vinton Lions lost 38-35 to Franklin in the Non-select Division IV state championship game at Burton Coliseum, ending a season full of firsts including their first playoff win since 2008—senior D.J.
Johnson led with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Franklin built a seven-point lead with a 10-1 run in the fourth quarter.
On Friday, the Lacassine Cardinals won their first state basketball championship in 61 years with a 77—61 victory over Avoyelles Public Charter at Burton Coliseum.
Senior Kane Broussard led the win by scoring 23 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and blocking two shots as the team ended a 32—1 season.
