CULTURE NEWS

  • Comedian Gary Owen (famous for his TV specials) is launching his No Hard Feelings Tour this Saturday at 8 p.m. in the Rosa Heart Theatre at the Lake Charles Event Center. Tickets are available at the box office.  Gator 99.5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents can safely dispose of unwanted electronics at CITGO E-Recycle Day today (held at select locations in Lake Charles) as part of an initiative to promote proper recycling and reduce waste.  7 KPLC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a morning police jury meeting, Cameron Parish approved a new dredge permit that lets Venture Global CP2 use mud spoils to create the No Name Bayou Marsh (with oversight by the Coastal Restoration and Protection Authority) in the Cameron Prairie Wildlife Refuge. Fishermen and oystermen voiced concerns over oyster quality following last August’s spill at Big Lake.  7 KPLC

HEALTH NEWS

  • With days growing longer and warmer weather on the way, counselor Joel Daugherty says vitamin D from sunlight boosts mood, energy, and bone strength. Although spring officially begins on Mar. 20, residents can already benefit by spending time outdoors.  7 KPLC
  • Lake Charles Police Department will partner with the Drug Enforcement Administration on Saturday, April 25, to host a free prescription drug take back at Walmart Neighborhood Market (2011 Ryan St.) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents can drop off unwanted pills and patches to help prevent misuse.  The American Press
  • Town officials said Welsh water turned pink for a couple days over the weekend because of a mechanical failure (the color change is due to potassium) and that it remains safe to drink; many experienced similar discoloration after a pump replacement in 2023.  7 KPLC

SPORTS NEWS

  • McNeese Cowboys will face No. 3 Rio Grande Valley at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Townsley Law Arena as they aim to win their third straight title; team star Javohn Garcia (returning after a knee injury) says he is ready to play.  The American Press
  • Coach Ayla Guzzardo rebuilt the women's basketball team as the Cowgirls set a record with 20 Southland wins and a 21-1 mark. They will host the Southland Championships on Wednesday at Townsley Law Arena and aim for their first conference title since 2013.  The American Press
  • Championship week continues in Lake Charles as the LHSAA Boys Basketball State Tournament at Burton Coliseum and the Southland Conference Tournament at Townsley Law Arena run from Monday to Saturday — Tuesday’s matchups and upcoming games will stream live on the NFHS Network.  Gator 99.5
