  • Local Boy Scout was honored as Outstanding Volunteer of the Year by Lt. Gov and the Town of Vinton on Tuesday, Feb. 25. The ceremony (held in Vinton) celebrated his commitment to local community service.  7 KPLC

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Monster X Tour will return to the Lake Charles Event Center on Saturday, March 21 with two shows at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Families can enjoy a Pit Party (afternoon: 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.; evening: 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.) before trucks perform stunts and freestyle tricks.  Gator 99.5
  • Regional cooks will compete for the best cracklins at Jellystone RV Park on Saturday, Mar. 7 as Grammy Award winner Wayne Toups performs live Cajun tunes for a day of Louisiana flavor.  Gator 99.5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • SOWELA Technical Community College will host over 300 middle and high school students on Mar. 4 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at its Arts and Humanities Building (2000 Merganser St.) for Criminal Justice Day, where interactive exhibits will explore law enforcement careers.  7 KPLC
  • Louisiana education leaders are partnering with AI platforms to provide interactive lessons, tutoring, and automated grading tools in schools. The state has already allocated funds for these programs + emphasized strong measures to protect student data privacy while keeping progress in reading and math on track.  The American Press
  • McNeese’s new $32 million student union opened yesterday, offering thousands of students modern study areas and meeting spaces on campus in Lake Charles. The project highlights efforts to enhance student facilities and promote local community engagement.  7 KPLC

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Crews fought fires that burned over 100 acres in Beauregard Parish after a tire broke and ignited dry grass on Hwy 171 on Monday; additional blazes were contained near Rosepine and south of Singer as Calcasieu, Beauregard, and Vernon Parishes remain under a burn ban.  The American Press
