- ➤ SWLA Abolitionist to Fight Human Trafficking and Project Trey Cafe will host their second annual gumbo cookoff this Saturday, Feb. 28, in Lake Charles. The event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and features face painting, vendors, and gumbo (a fundraiser to boost awareness and support survivors). 7 KPLC

- ➤ The US Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants will hold a free community concert on Tuesday, Mar. 24 at 7 p.m. at McNeese F.G. Bulber Auditorium (275 Lawton Drive) to honor past and present Airmen. 7 KPLC

- ➤ SOWELA Technical Community College is hosting the Flying Tiger Open House on Saturday, March 7 at 11 a.m. on its Main Campus in Lake Charles to let prospective students explore hands-on learning opportunities, meet faculty for enrollment help, and tour facilities (aviation hangar, labs, and LNG training skid) while enjoying food and giveaways. 7 KPLC
- ➤ McNeese University opened its $32 million Elizabeth and Leslie Richard Student Union on Feb. 22 with new study rooms, offices, ballrooms, and dining options for students. Funded by fees and donors, the facility welcomes students and operates (7 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekends). 7 KPLC

- ➤ A former New Orleans archbishop clarified in a 2010 letter that alligator counts as seafood, so Catholics giving up meat for Lent in Lake Charles can still eat local alligator. This guidance may help locals enjoy a lean protein alternative during Lent. Gator 99.5
