- ➤ The EPA scrapped a key climate rule on Feb. 12 that may make insurance more expensive and hurricanes stronger for Lake Charles residents. Local businesses and families now face more weather risks as they plan ahead. The Advocate

- ➤ Chase Fontenont, whose childhood struggles inspired him to pursue a career in law enforcement, is training to join the Lake Charles Police and invites interested locals to attend open try-outs on Saturday, Feb. 28. 7 KPLC
- ➤ The USDA announced programs to assist local farmers and livestock producers recover from January’s winter ice storm, with deadlines on March 1 for livestock claims and within 90 days for tree replanting. Eligible producers should review the requirements to secure assistance. 7 KPLC

- ➤ Guaranty Corporation bought a 4.8-acre parcel on Burbank Drive for $1.65 million, and permits were given for a 120-foot radio tower and a 25,000 sqft building to offer future options. The company said it has no plans to leave its longtime headquarters (used for 75 years). The Advocate
