  • Lake Charles offers a busy weekend with a French dance featuring Cajun legend Jesse Lege Friday from 7:00 to 10:00 pm, country star Josh Turner performing Saturday at 8:00 pm at the Golden Nugget's Grand Event Center, and McNeese basketball hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday at Townsley Law Arena.  Gator 99.5

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Safety upgrades at the I-10 detour in Westlake have effectively stopped truck crashes since Feb. 4, according to Westlake Police and DOTD — the improvements include rumble strips, improved signage, stop signs, and a 119-decibel siren that alerts approaching trucks, with costs falling on drivers.  7 KPLC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Several local churches provided Ashes-to-Go services on Ash Wednesday, allowing parishioners to quickly receive their ashes outside of traditional services (many adapted their schedules for those with busy mornings).  7 KPLC
  • Grammy Award winner Wayne Toups will perform live at Jellystone RV Park and Resort in Lake Charles on Saturday, March 7 (event listing confirms an all-day celebration) offering a weekend of live music, food, and outdoor activities for family and friends.  Gator 99.5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students in SOWELA’s Digital Arts program created the children’s book A Cat’s Tail (a story of a tail-less cat who learns his uniqueness) as a class project; the book launch will take place on Feb. 21 at 10 a.m. at the Southwest Louisiana Children’s Museum in Lake Charles, with proceeds benefiting a Digital Arts scholarship.  7 KPLC

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Monday night at McNeese State's Cowgirl Field, the third-ranked Saints overcame a rare deficit with three unanswered second-half goals to defeat E.D. White 3-1 in the Division III quarterfinals, earning their first semifinal trip since 2023 as they prepare to face Loyola Prep in Shreveport.  The American Press
  • McNeese State Cowgirls, riding a record 15 game win streak, face Texas Rio Grande Valley tonight at Townsley Law Arena in a contest that could clinch a share of the Southland Conference title (the Vaqueros are considered a strong rival) with coach Ayla Guzzardo warning of a tough game.  The American Press
  • McNeese softball team won its third straight game on Wednesday when it beat South Alabama in Mobile, and it will host Houston + Missouri at Joe Miller Field this weekend as part of the Cajun AC Louisiana Classic.  The American Press
