  • The well-known Five Guys on Ryan Street closed permanently as of Sunday, Jan. 18 (according to a note on its front door) leaving the location without its familiar signs.  Gator 99.5

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country music icon Mark Chesnutt is set to perform at the Golden Nugget's Grand Event Center on May 1 after tickets go on sale this Friday, Jan. 30 at 10:00 a.m. Fans from Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas will enjoy his classic hits live.  Gator 99.5
  • Historic City Hall is hosting ‘Rodrigue: A Louisiana Cowboy,’ a new exhibit showcasing 58 paintings, four bronze sculptures and a life-size cow sculpture by George Rodrigue. The show will open Friday and run through April 4 at Historic City Hall (1001 Ryan St.)  The American Press
  • Lake Charles comic Jay Moody was featured on the Kill Tony episode recorded in Austin on January 19. He has nine years of stand-up experience and his appearance spotlights local talent.  Gator 99.5

ECONOMY NEWS

  • New York-based Glenfarne Energy, with Kinder Morgan, requested a five-year extension from U.S. regulators to finish its LNG export plant on a 115-acre site near Lake Charles (citing regulatory uncertainty and Department of Energy delays). The move may postpone operations until as late as April 2031.  The American Press

  • The SOWELA Foundation will host its annual Taste of SOWELA fundraiser on Friday, March 6, at 5:30 p.m. at the Culinary, Gaming, and Hospitality Center on Senator J. Bennett Johnson Avenue where live music, food + games, and a blackjack tournament will benefit student scholarships.  7 KPLC

  • Sen. Bill Cassidy urged caution Tuesday after eight winter-related deaths occurred and secured $137.5 million in federal funds for flood, hurricane, and shoreline protection across southern Louisiana (adding to $438 million already provided).  The American Press
